Grah Pravesh puja, a housewarming ceremony, is a ritual performed before moving into a new home to protect it from negativity. For this grah pravesh puja, you must perform some religious rituals and avoid some things to bring good luck and good health to family members.
Grah pravesh puja can only be done once for a house, so it is important to pay attention to the puja and perform every ritual perfectly by following each step:
Some things are good for performing puja, whereas some things are bad. The day of Dussehra is considered the most auspicious day to perform grah parvesh puja rituals. There are some more days, and these days you don't need a shubh muhurat like navaratri, akshya tritya, vasant panchami, and dhanteras. - Primary elements for the house
First, only enter your house when the basic needs are available here, like electricity, water, windows, and doors, because it is said that you have to sleep in the house on the night of the holy day. So it is compulsory to have basic needs in your house because you are sleeping there overnight with your family members.
- Clean your home.
To welcome positivity and happiness in your new home, it is compulsory to clean it perfectly. because it is said that God lives in a clean house. It is well known by everyone that cleanliness attracts goddess Laxmi, so you have to clean your new house perfectly before grah parvesh puja. Clean the floor with salt water the first time to remove negativity and bad energies from your lovely house. Make sure you clean each corner of your house.
- Purification and decoration of your house
After cleaning the house now with the help of mango leaves, sprinkle ganga jal in home from pooja kalash. This is the belief that Ganga Jal finishes all the impurities of everything, whether it is alive or not. Before the ceremony, decorate your home and main entrance with mango leaves and flowers. In Vastu Shastra, the main door of a house has a huge impact, so it is compulsory to decorate the main entrance with flowers. Prepare rangoli in the middle of the hall, and at the main entrance, decorate it with colors and flowers. Light diya in between rangoli. also prepare swastik on both sides of the main door. One big garland of mango leaves is made and hangs above the door.
- Grah pravesh pooja
For the pooja ceremony, book a pandit in advance. It is said that the first food you make in Kerala will be rice kheer, and then it is served as prasad to everyone. You have to perform hawan to greet you home, followed by Ganesh puja, Vastu dosh pooja, and navgraha shanti puja to clean the neighborhood and spread happiness all over the house. because the hawan contains some elements that used to wave off negative energies. After completing pooja planning a meal, first serve the meal to 5 or 11 pandits, then touch their feet for blessings. Give them 1.25 MTR. Of clothes and money. Don't move into a new house in the week of Holi.
You have to open a door or windows of home overnight to attract positivity. You must light up a lamp in the temple of the house for the full night.
The grah pravesh should not be held if there was a pregnant woman in the house or someone died from family in the last 6 months.
